Research Work Plan
The project will last 21/2 years (from
1/2/02 to 31/7/04). It has fourteen work packages that combine in the
following manner.
Work Package 1 is the project
management that continues throughout the life of the project.
Work Package 2 draws up a
conceptual framework that provides the theoretical underpinning for
the research. It explores key concepts (sustainability, leadership,
participation), and ensures that the theoretical work is informed by
practice.
Work Package 3 uses the material
generated from Work Package 2, and produces the research design for
use by the case study teams.
Work Packages 2 and 3 ensure a
consistent approach across the case study teams. The overall
relationships between the work packages are as follows.
The case study teams will use the
conceptual framework and research design to conduct the 9 country case
studies (Work Packages 4-12). The purpose of the case studies
is to generate comparable data which can be used in the following work
package (Work Package 13, comparative conclusions). The
comparative conclusions work package will identify effective
combinations of urban leadership and community involvement and produce
context sensitive tools for use by policy makers to measure and effect
sustainable urban governance. Work Package 14 ensures a broad
awareness and dialogue about the research findings, and will inform
policy makers at all levels of government.
The country case studies are led by the
academic institutions in the country concerned. The leadership of the
other work packages is as follows:
Work Packages 1 and 14 University
of the West of England, Bristol
Work Package 2 Darmstadt
University of Technology
Work Package 3 University of
Twente
Work Package 13 Panteion
University of Athens
